Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get started?

Starting can sometimes be the hardest part, so let's try and make it easy.  Contact, call or email us to book a 60-90min intake session.

Do you take insurance?

We do not take insurance.  However, upon request, we will gladly submit a superbill that you may supply to your insurance carrier for third party reimbursement.

My son is 10 years old and he could really use a male role model, can you help him?

Valiance's approach is designed to support emerging adults and young professionals.  Although there's a great need to support children, we unfortunately don't feel like we're the best people to do that work.  Valiance does not see clients under the age of 15.

What exactly is the difference between coaching and individual counseling?

Coaching tends to focus on the present.  Coaches are patient, attentive, and well educated on the skills and strategies that can bring you results.  Coaches watch what you do and when the time is right, they will provide constructive feedback in a direct way that's tailored to you and that gets results.  The best coaches are eternally optimistic that the person they are coaching can get better.

Therapy tends to consider the past in order to understand the present.  Most therapy looks closely at the challenges you have faced historically to understand what's impacting you today.  Good therapists zoom out, looking beyond just the challenges of today to consider all the pieces to the puzzle that could be impacting how you feel and what you're struggling with.

Usually, not all coaches are therapists, and not every therapist is a coach.  That's not the case at Valiance.  Every provider you work with is both a therapist and a coach or athlete themselves.  We're not only professionals in mental health counseling, & behavioral health coaching, we personally model the behaviors that we believe in, day in, and day out.

Does telemental health work and what can I expect?

Although the sensation of engaging in services via live video or live phone calls is undeniably different, what you lose in some areas, you can also gain in others.

Research suggests that clients who engage in telemental health report similar outcomes compared to those who engage in person.

With ease of access being the primary advantage, telehealth allows clients to engage in services with ease.  Sessions can be conducted from the comfort of your own home without feeling the effects of having to travel to an office or other pressures associated with an office visit.

All mental health counseling sessions at Valiance can be conducted remotely for your convenience.

Does therapy work with anxiety?

Yes, in most cases, therapy and mental health counseling has been proven to be effective in supporting those struggling with anxiety, depression, and many other mental health challenges.  Although it can feel overwhelming to seek support when you're struggling to know what to do, who to trust, how to help yourself and where to go in life, if you're reading this, you've made it to the right place.

By forming trusting, private, and personalized relationships with our clients, Valiance's mental health counselors and therapists can work with you to make the unknowns of life less scary, the challenges socially and with loved ones easier, and the panic, worry, or sleepless nights be far less impactful and frequent.
